Drop Coverage for the Winter??

This is a question that I am sure many riders consider as they park their bike in the garage for the winter. It sounds reasonable that someone wouldnt want to pay for coverage for 4-5 months, however this could be a costly assumption for a few reasons:

  1. There is absolutely NO COVERAGE for your cycle under your homeowners policy even if it is parked in your garage. Theft and fire are still real risks to your ride.
  2. If we get a nice 75 degree day in the winter and you decide to head out for a ride, you want to be sure your policy is active
  3. You will pay more when you go to buy another policy in the spring with having a lapse in coverage.
  4. Your company may report your cancellation to your state department of motor vehicles who will then start proceedings to suspend your registration unless you can provide new proof of insurance.
In years past many companies had a "lay-up" provision to suspend liabillity coverage, but most now price their policies figuring most people have very limited riding in the winter.
